アンティーク家具につきものなのが天板の汚れやベニアの浮き。特に日本のような高温多湿の地域にヨーロッパの涼しい気候から輸入するとどうしても膨張して割れが生じたりしてしまいます。今回はちょっと特殊な一例をご紹介します。
このテーブルは天板が開閉式になっており、開くとカードボードにもなるゲームテーブルです。
現在ではゲームテーブルとしての使用はほとんどなく、サイドテーブルとして使用していた様です。

It may have been used as a flower stand. The decorative veneer in the center of the tabletop has softened and peeled off.
The veneer on antique furniture is glued using a natural adhesive called glue, so it is vulnerable to heat and water.
It is possible that water spilled while watering the vase or water droplets from condensation have seeped into the countertop and caused the glue to become soggy.
First, prepare an iron and a hammer.
The decorative veneers on antique furniture are attached with 100% natural adhesives, so they melt with the heat of an iron and can be reused as adhesive. It's like candy. It melts softly with heat and hardens when cooled.
Heat it with an iron to melt the glue inside, then press down firmly with a hammer from above to blend it in. If you apply the iron too much, it will burn, so it's difficult to get it right.
The glue immediately began to harden and the loosening of the veneer was eliminated. If you leave it to set for a day, you can proceed to the normal repainting process.
The veneer is no longer loose and is now flat, but there are still painful black spots on the surface caused by water stains, so I sanded the surface down and removed some of the color with bleach. If you remove the color with bleach, the black spots will be less noticeable and the paint color will be easier to apply.
However, bleaching is a very delicate process, so please do not try to do it yourself just because you have seen this. If the concentration and time are incorrect, countless black dots will appear.

Thanks to all my efforts, the dark spots are now almost unnoticeable.
The paint color is light, so if you look closely you can still see some black spots, but this is it for now.
The colour was specified so it couldn't be made more inconspicuous.
